Did you know that Prasiolite, also known as Lime Citrine, Green Amethyst, Green Quartz, Veregreen, and Amegreen, is a rare member of the Quartz family. In fact, it is one of only a few green varieties of quartz and as such, some consider Prasiolite as a variety of Amethyst. However, many gemologists believe that material classified as Prasiolite does not have sufficient quantity or quality to qualify as Green Amethyst. It has an identical chemical composition (SiO2) and molecular structure to regular Amethyst; however, it contains the additional element of grass-green coloration. Parsiolite can be very pale in color or a deep petrol green. Its name is derived from the Greek words ‘prason’, which means leek, and ‘lithos’, which means stone.
