Cornetite with Malachite and Crystallised Chrysocolla
This piece is a stunning example of the process of long-term geologic formation, as layer upon layer of changes in mineralization are beautifully evident in this gorgeous collectors specimen. The sparkle in this is just stunning. So much better in person
Weighs 1.26kg and is 22.5cm x 13cm
Malachite is an opaque and banded copper carbonate hydroxide that often forms stalagmitic and/or botryoidal ("bunch of grapes") masses. In this beautiful specimen chrysocolla—a blue-green mineral with high copper content—has crystallised amongst the malachite and cornetite, resulting in a beautiful sea of densely saturated hues and layers
Cornetite is a rare secondary copper mineral that is noted for its deep blue, green-blue to green color. It is found in highly weathered, oxidation zones of copper sulfide ore bodies. It has a good deep color, nice crystal forms and an attractive sparkle, all the ingredients for a popular collection mineral.
